Green Goddess Smoothie

Green Goddess Smoothie

Start your day with a wholesome, energising breakfast like my Green Goddess Smoothie. It's one of the best look and feel-good moves you can make - loading your body with high nutrient content first thing in your morning.

It’s also the perfect way to begin those body blitz days, post-holiday celebrations.

I hope you’ll love the thick, creamy taste and texture from this avocado, banana + green veg combo, as much as I do.

Green Smoothie

Avocados are a great source of healthy fats and fibre that will help increase your body’s absorption of carotenoids (antioxidants) from the leafy greens in this drink.

Banana is a brilliant energy booster and post-workout recovery fruit making it an ideal ingredient to have in a smoothie, for after those January morning - get healthy and fit training sessions.

The leafy greens and cucumber used will support your body’s detox systems in eliminating accumulated toxins, as will the mint, which is also good for soothing indigestion and inflammation of the stomach. All of these green beauties offer a welcome relief if you want to banish bloating and curb your sweet cravings.

Green veggies are the biz for helping to create and maintain a flatter, trimmer tummy. But if you’re making regular smoothies it’s important to switch things about a bit and experiment with other greens, vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds.

It’s much better for your health to get a variety of nutrients from different types of foods and this advice applies across the board to your entire diet, not just your smoothies.

The lime juice enhances the flavour of the veg + fruit, and if you’re not familiar with maca – it’s a Peruvian root vegetable in the radish family that is available in powder or capsule form.

Maca powder is perfect for adding to smoothies. I could talk all day about the benefits of maca, but basically if you’ve got a particularly stressful day ahead, feeling low in energy or hormonally out of whack then throw some maca into your smoothie.

Once you’re smoothie is blended, top it off with some nutrient-rich chia seeds and a few pumpkin seeds. And voila - here you have a delicious breakfast, rich in plant-based foods that will aid weight loss, energy and a beautiful complexion. What more could you want to help beat those January blues!

2 scoops of vanilla plant protein powder

300ml of filtered water

½ banana

½ ripe avocado

1 handful of greens (kale, spinach or lettuce)

1/3 rd of small cucumber

sprig of mint leaves

good squirt of fresh lime juice

1 tablespoon of pumpkin seeds + some for decoration

½ teaspoon of maca powder (optional)

Chia seeds (for the topping)

  1. Blend all the ingredients together in a high-speed blender until smooth. If necessary, adjust water content to suit your consistency preference.
  2. Pour into a glass to serve and sprinkle the chia seeds over the top for decoration.

Maca powder can be bought from various online health stores, including Amazon as well as high-street health food shops. As with all food, do buy the best you can afford.
