Healing Bone Broth

If you didn't already know - Bone Broth has a lot going for it, especially this time of year!

I find it really nourishing in soups, stews, sauces, or as a cooking liquid for food, when shorter days and colder weather act as a signal to the body to start boosting my immunity.

Packed full of nutrients and flavour, Bone Broth is also a versatile and inexpensive food that can be stored in the freezer. So there's no excuses!

Traditionally it was made and served by older generations to those feeling off colour or unwell. But is great too, if you want to improve your nutrient intake, digestion and immune system.

Rich in minerals and simple to prep in a slow cooker, by boiling bones of healthy animals with vegetables, herbs and spices.

Bone Broth


1 onion (cut into chunks)

2 celery sticks (cut into sticks)

2 carrots (cut into chunks)

Bones from 1 chicken (organic / free range to make sure health benefits)

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

2 bay leaves

6 peppercorns

6-9 cups of filtered water


  1. Put all ingredients (apart from the water) into the slow cooker
  2. Add the filtered water until it fills your slow cooker pot
  3. Cover and place on low heat for 6 to 8 hours
  4. Remove and discard the vegetables plus chicken bones with a slotted spoon
  5. Let the broth cool if not using straight away.
  6. Strain the remainder of the stock into mason jars and let it cool before placing it in the fridge or freezer.
